Emulation

Do you ever get the urge to pull out your old playstation, Gameboy, or whatever else you spent your time playing as a kid, but then once you go looking, you find that the batteries are dead or the discs are scratched or its not working for whatever reason and you instead just give up and cry?

Theo does. But he shouldn’t. Because there's an easier way: emulation! Video game emulation is where software running on a PC duplicates a gaming system, allowing you to play the games of that system on your PC! Most older gaming systems have fan-made emulators available on PC, allowing their games to live on and be experienced even after the original hardware falls apart and eventually ends up in the rubbish bin.

Emulation has its advantages: because of the constant increase in processing power, old games can be rendered with much nicer graphics than the original (see below: original Wii game is on the left, PC is on the right)

Also, with PC emulation, you don’t have to go rummaging around for physical discs or cartridges in order to play your games. You can just keep them in a folder on your PC!

However, the legality of downloading games to play on your emulator is questionable at best. If you don’t own the game in real life, it is downright stealing, even if the game is fairly old (copyright expires after 70 years in Australia). If you do own the game in real life, an argument can be made that you are simply “making a copy for personal use” AKA “format shifting”, which is legal for you to do with computer programs in Australia.

Stay tuned to Super MEATO Bros, as next time I'll be having a go at using an emulator myself!

MEATO's blog layout

Not sure if this will be interesting so I’ll keep it short and sweet.

Thought out plans lead to great things right?
So here are ours. Below you will see our amazingly structured layout of the blog, with information of what gadgets we want to include as well as font and background colours we plan to implement.

Our group members, being so fab, have also created an awesome picture to give a humorous edge to our blog and relate it back to video games (cheers Theo and Olly)! We are not too sure where to place the pic yet. So WARNING the design may change a little. But hopefully our future blogs are enjoyable and we hope to see some comments!

And we can honestly tell you… that we have no clue… BUT! But! (pft butt haha), we are pleased to tell you that the theme of our blog is VIDEO GAMES. We all have decided to dedicate ourselves to video game related topics and content which may include reviews, gaming updates, thoughts on trends and tons of other different things. We also would like to add that we all do actually have independent brains, and with that comes differing opinions and perspectives; we acknowledge, like-wise, we are only human and we may have a different perspective to you. So STEP ON UP! Don’t be shy; leave a comment telling us how you feel. We'll get through any and all comments that are posted on out posts.
And so, dear readers, you have PLENTY to look forward to in the near future! To make things easier we recommend that you subscribe to our (RSS) feed so you will be notified when we post an update, but no we are not your parents so we’re not going to force you if you don’t want to. But you should anyway! So then, what are you waiting for? Go procrastinate some more!
